Once in a blue moon or the occasional vegan
We all know when to use the phrase "once in a blue moon" but do we stop to think where it originated? It turns out there is indeed a blue moon, and it appears more often than we thought.
I follow closely to the phases of the moon, and have done so for the past four years. It's not a hobby but a creed. For on those two days a month (lunar calendar) when the moon is at its fullest, I become a vegetarian. That's because the Chinese calendar follows the lunar calendar, and it's common practice of Buddhists to skip meat on those days.
But I'm not Buddhist, yet, I concur that a collective effort to not eat meat means a lot less slaughtering of animals, even if it's only for a day.
It's not all noble, at least for me. I don't consider an occasional vegetarian a major effort, staying healthy weighs at least as much as being righteous. Thus, the reason I'm a vegan on average two months out of a year. It's my way of healthy living for the body and soul.
