Hero rules
Hero, the Chinese movie starring Jet Li, is number one at the U.S. box office on its opening day. That has to be a first for an Asian film. I thought it's really fine when it first played in Hong Kong some two years ago. Later when it was released on DVD and VCD, I bought several copies to send to friends and family and kept one for myself. But it truly needs to be seen on the big screen to appreciate its cinematic beauty. Neither Hero nor Crouching Tiger was a hit in the East until it reached the West, where both also received an Oscar Nomination. Zhang Yimou has already made a follow-up to Hero; it's called House of Flying Daggers; it was shown last month here in Hong Kong. Will fans in the West have to wait another two years?
