Don't trust your LifeDrive
The LifeDrive has given me nothing but grieve since I bought it 6 months ago. The prospect was tempting - a laptop alternative in a 6.8 oz. package. I can't help but jumped on ship. But the sail has been rocky from the start. Constant resetting and long reset time are part of a daily routine when using the LifeDrive. Often a culprit of its own doing – Blazer, Drive Mode, Wi-Fi - can easily cause resets. Add incompatibility with many 3rd-party apps and instability multiplies. Even apps like Docs To Go that come with the device can be a cause for resets. The most severe incident happened when I installed Paragon’s Merriam-Webster Dictionary. It completely crashed my LifeDrive beyond repair. I had to take it in to service and the guy gave me a new replacement. I then had to reinstall everything again, a headache and time-consuming task. Only 2 short months later, the Wi-Fi is now broken. Palm Support told me the only thing I can do to get Wi-Fi back is to do a hard reset. I wouldn't mind it so much if I weren’t on a trip and away from my PowerBook, because then I can do a full backup before wiping out the drive. But now I can’t do anything till I get home, except to pray that nothing else breaks until then.
So the way I'm posting to my blog for the rest of my stay here, or the rest of my vacation for that matter, is to write my entries in Documents To Go on my LifeDrive, in native Word mode, then send the file to my iBook-on-loaned via Bluetooth. I can then edit and copy-and-paste my entries to my Movable Type blog in Safari. Of course I'd much prefer to post directly from my Palm using HBlogger, but with Wi-Fi out-of-order on my LifeDrive, that's out of the question.
