.Mac mail as an anywhere notebook
The .mac blog has a great tip on using the IMAP function of your .Mac mail account as a handy notebook that you can write on anywhere there's computer and Internet access. Just log on to your webmail and compose a new message as though you're sending it to someone. When you're done, save it as draft instead, and when you're back on your Mac, Mail will sync with .Mac and your message will appear in your Drafts folder.
For it to work the first time, you may have to set up Mail to sync with the .Mac server. You can do that easily by going to Accounts in the Preferences in Mail, then check on the "Store draft messages on the server" box. One caveat: You may notice some or all of your current draft messages suddenly vanish after you enable this function. That's what happened to mine. But I later found them still in their proper folder inside my Mail Library on my hard disk; they're just not shown in Mail anymore. Other than that, the drafts thereon-forward worked just like the tip said they would, they become portable notes.
