.Mac move over, Xdrive is here
Xdrive, now an AOL service, is offering 5GB of online storage for free. The web interface works in Safari and Firefox. Lucky Windows users can download additional software to have Xdrive appear on their desktop, just like .Mac's iDisk, and a plugin that transfers content on the web directly to their Xdrive, without having to download it first. The Xdrive FAQ states it's working on a Mac version of Xdrive Desktop and Skip the Download Plugin, but no release date is set.
It's time for Apple to overhaul .Mac and increase iDisk's storage in generous proportions. Xdrive is free with 5 times the space of iDisk, and for the price of a .Mac membership, you can have a massive 50GB of storage on Xdrive. Only the most insane Mac nut will stay with .Mac, a nut like me.
Xdrive is also supposed to work on web-enabled mobiles and PDAs, but the link http://www.mobile.xdrive.com/ isn't working properly yet. When it does, my Palm LifeDrive is ready.
Good move, AOL! Shame on you, Apple!
